Lumbar Disc Nucleoplasty
While rongeurs are used to remove the material directly from the vertebral disk, the application of radiofrequency energy with bipolar TipControl instruments acts to both ablate the tissue of the vertebral disk (volume reduction) and to disrupt the small nerve fibers at the fibrous ring of the vertebral disk. The spinal nerves are therefore indirectly decompressed and the disruption of the nerve fibers prevents conduction of pain signals to the brain.
